Had a visitor today, this makes number 29 of the different bird varieties in our yard. This little Silvereye was very nervous of me but I finally got him, looks like he's playing peek-a-boo.
I know there are other birds that come to visit our yard, I hear them, trouble is that I can't get close enough to identify, mmmh - one day!

Guess who came to visit

The yard is about 2 acres, the front is about 100 meters from the shore and at the back runs a little creek surrounded by trees and vegetation. Why I mention this is that we've photographed 28 different bird species just on this small parcel of land. There are more, I've heard them but as yet they haven't allowed me to identify or photograph them.
And, oh yes, better mention we also have holiday cottages available on the 2 acres for anyone that's interested in coming to King Island for a bit of a look-see.
This picture is taken from one of the cottages' dining room overlooking Sea Elephant Bay - this is the cottage website, take a peek, go on:  www.naracoopaholidayunits.com.au

What a job!  Chasing Grey Fantails around to get a picture is one thing, but to get them to sit still and say cheese, well that's another, they certainly are an active little bird.

Well, The shooters did well last weekend on their annual hunt, the pheasants were caught napping. Most shooters bagged their limit of 6 on the first day, there's a picture of the slaughter on the front page of the King Island Courier -
www.kingislandcourier.com/  (may have to wait until their website is updated).

But looking at the positives, shooter numbers are down, cock numbers are up and reports are of plenty of females.
After the shoot I saw three cocks together strutting their stuff – and where was my camera?

Oh, The beautiful picture above? A Naracoopa sunrise, and where was my camera this time? hah!

One weekend a year in June there is an annual Pheasant shoot on King Island. Hunters come from all over Australia to bag a few of these delectable delicacies. There is a small bag limit.
There are many Ring-neck Pheasants on King Island yet come a few days before that weekend, they all seem to go into hiding deeming the hunter’s trophies just that little less fruitful.
